The Smoke Free North Tyneside Alliance is a multi-disciplinary and cross-agency alliance that first convened in June 2005 and was established to act as a vehicle for delivering and monitoring tobacco control activity across North Tyneside.
The focus of the alliance is to create a healthy and smoke free borough. This is only possible with a comprehensive tobacco control strategy that focuses on all aspects of tobacco control. This includes addressing issues such as illicit tobacco, regulation of tobacco products, reducing availability and supply of tobacco, along with stop smoking services, marketing and secondhand smoke.
The alliance is currently coordinated by Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust in partnership with North Tyneside Council. Members come from a variety of departments and organisations and include, Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Community Health Development Service, Tyne & Wear Fire Service, School Improvement, and the local Stop Smoking Service, amongst others.
