Plain Packs Protect
Overview
The "Plain Packs Protect" campaigned is aimed at helping turn off the tap of North East child smokers who are attracted to glitzy brands.
The average age most smokers in the North East start is just 15. Cigarette brands are a loophole in advertising and there are brands many people think resemble Lego, boxes shaped and coloured like make up and cigarettes marketed at trendy young women on sale in the North East.
The campaign urging the Government to adopt the same standardised packs with larger health warnings as in Australia was led by Smokefree South West and supported by FRESH, ASH, Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
