Take 7 Steps Out ran in three phases - August 2010, December 2010 and July 2011. Wave one focused on:
- TV advert - reaching 1.6m people
- Life Channel in 55 GP surgeries reaching 34,000 people
- Baby TV in maternity units across the region
- 25,000 leaflets to GP surgeries and children’s centres in each PCT area, plus 6,000 to PCT resource centres
- PR featured in local newspapers, radio and TV with quotes from local paediatricians and quitters
Brett Johnson, a 33-year-old dad-of-two and former smoker from Station Town in County Durham, said:
“When you smoke you understand the risks to your own health, but it’s your own choice if you want to ignore it. But a lot of kids subjected to smoke don’t have that choice.”
